Oil Mist Containment Systems
Oil mist
containment issues are a
problem that plagues rotating machinery industries worldwide.
Oil saturated air from the thrust bearing oil pot escapes
through the upper and lower seals and is mixed into the generator
ventilation. In closed air systems, the oil condenses
throughout the machine reducing air cooler effectiveness and making the
generator barrel a slip hazard. Maintenance crews must take
special precautions when climbing through the generator to avoid
slipping. Generator air coolers that are fouled with oil
reduce overall efficiency of the machine. Solutions to these
problems are not often explored due to cost/benefit assumptions.
